Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to post an update on my mother. She started chemo and radiation today. She is fine right now and doesn't feel any effects. I know she probably will but I am praying it will not be bad. She is having radiation for 5 1/2 weeks and 5 FU around the clock at the same time. Also she is going to be on Cisplatinum for 2 hours a day for the first 5 days and then again for the last 5 days of treatment. Then they will do testing to see where we are.  We can use everybody's prayers that this works. Any info on this regiment would be appreciated. All of you are still in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello,

I know your Mama will need lots of loving care during this time.

Stay positive and hopefully her side effects will be minimal.  My husband went thought it and one year later he does not even remember the troubling side effects.

If I may offer a suggestion, my husband suffered from mouth sores during the 5 fu treatments. He used to drink coffee during infusions. Someone recommended eating or drinking cold things would reduce the painful sores.  And it did.

Eating ice cream or drinking a cold drink during infusion was very helpful and we had fun doing it.

 You have a lucky mama.

Hi Pat,

So sorry to hear about your mom.  My mom started treatment for EC last Tuesday. One round of chemo and 6 does of rad done as of today. She is in the hospital for treatment. They want to be able to keep a close eye on her and monitor her pain meds.  Its a long bumpy road ahead- all we can do is hang on tight and stay strong.

Hi 2Cats,

Thank you for your concern. This is a tough one. I have a knot tied in my rope to hang onto. I hope your Mom comes through her treatments OK. Please let me know how she does. Both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.      Pat

Thanks Pat.  Its sure a rough ride, isnt it?  Mom went home from the hospital today. She was in for 8 days for her first round of 5FU.   Five days of chemo, and 3 days to get back on her feet.  Today was rad. treatment # 7.  So, she is about 1/3 of the way done with radiation- 15 more to go.  She'll have chemo, in the hospital again in about 3 weeks.

She was noticing a slight relief in symptoms for a couple days. She was actually swallowing her saliva, which she hasnt been able to do for about a month. But, now the inflamation is setting in and she's spitting some again. Thank God for the g-tube so she can at least get some nurtionment and fluids.
