I am a 49 year old female, living in Virginia. I had approximately five urinary tract infections in 18 months between 2001 and 2002, each time given antibiotics. On two occasions there was blood in the urine, and no other tests were ordered. On 10 Sep 03, I was told that I have conventional renal cell carcinoma with a six inch tumor that compressed my stomach area and was pushing on the spleen. On 29 Sep 03, I had a radical nephrectomy, with the kidney, tumor, adrenal gland, 14 lymph nodes, and a rib removed. I had a PET Scan on 21 Oct 03, which indicated that there was no evidence of disease. On 3 Nov 03, I started Interferon and will receive shots, 3x weekly for five to six months. The surgeon believes that, because one of the 14 lymph nodes had cancer, I should take the treatment. The oncologist seems to believe that, because the PET Scan indicated no spread of disease, that I do not need any further treatment. I was healthy prior to the surgery. I always take supplements, exercise, and drinks lots of water. I am so overwhelmed with all these varying opinions that I do not know whether to continue this treatment or stop this week. The side effects of interferon were awful and took 16 hours to recover. Any advice? Marguerite B
