Hello,

My mom was recently diagnosed with nonsmall cell lung cancer.  It has spread to her lymph nods on her left side as well.  The tumor is in her left lung.  She is 60 years old, is and always has been a nonsmoker, and has mild scleroderma (Crest syndrome) in her fingers and hands.  This is new to us,she was diagnosed two weeks ago today which seems like years ago.. We have been doing our research, visiting multiple doctors and searching for the best place for her. I am wondering if any of you have recommendations for my Mom.  We are looking at places across the country and world if need be.  We want to find someone who is familiar with dealing with Lung Cancer and scleroderma together.  We need to find a facility that will do radiation (one Dr. said he wasn't sure, he'd have to wait until the first sessions of chemo were over) and one surgeon said he wouldn't operate.  We are desperate need of recommendations, advice, prayers, whatever we can get to help our Mom.  She is the world to us.  Please send some advice our way.. Thank you... Toni

Hello, I am sorry to hear about your mom. I know what you are going through, my mom was diagnosed with nsclc stage 111b on Jan 4th. She had her second round of chemo already, we will know if it is effective after her next cat scan. Where do you live?  I heard that the cancer hospital in New York called Sloan Kettering is one of the best in the world. My mom lives in Florida and she is on a clinical trial, she is on carboplatin, taxol and avastin. I will write back to you after her cat scan and let you know if the meds are working. Keep in touch and let me know whats going on with your mom.    Jodi

Hi Jodi,

I am very sorry to hear about your mom also.. It's the hardest thing ever! We are in Cleveland, Ohio.  My sisters and I have done some research about Sloane Kettering also.  We are willing to go anywhere that would provide the best care.  When is your mom's next scan.  Please let me know how it goes.. If we hear of anything too, I will let you know.. Here is my personal email as well:

If you can get to Sloan in NYC, do it. They saved my wife last year and she had Stage 4 lung cancer that has metacizied. She is on Avastin after 6 rounds of chemo and is now also taking Tarciva as the remission declined after 7 months of Avastin. Fatigue is an issue but she just started a week ago. We now live in Canada and are very thankful we got to Sloan Kettering when we did last year. Chris
