Hi

I was just diagnosed with smoldering myeloma that will turn into multiple myeloma it is a fatal cancer. The Doctor is giving me 5 years to live, but I don't believe him.

I am from Germany living in tha USA for 18 Years. I just visited my Familiy 2 Weeks ago and it was hard saying goodbye.

I want to move back and die there, but I would divorce my husband and go alone my husband is giving me so much stress and I can never talk to him about anything. In Germany I would have to start allover again and live on wellfare until I would find a job. Or stay here and stay at my good job still divorce my husband.

I don't know what to do

Is there anybody who has the same cancer? Please contact me and tell me how you are coping with it.

Thank you

Petra

Hi,

I have had MM for 5 years now.  Your doctor needs a lesson or 2 in his bedside manner.  Although MM has no cure, you can live with it for a fair amount of time.  If you did nothing to fight it, you might make 5 years, maybe not.  But you are not going to just let it take over.

There is a lot that can be done to lengthen your time.  Stem cell transplants, medications, etc.   I had a stem cell transplant back in Dec 03 and was in 'remission' for 3 years with no problems.  Usually, you have to be under 60 for them to go ahead with a SCT.  My MM is coming back now, so I just began Revlimid to knock it down a bit.  I wish there was a magic bullet to get rid of it, but it is not available yet.  Get a good Oncologist and hang in there.

Dear Petra:

You are hearing from a person who survived stage 1V Multiple myeloma.  It is an uheard of event.  I had no hope and a few weeks to live. We also have a seperate group that talks of these things.  You may email me at --- Message edited by CancerCompass staff: for personal protection, email address removed.  Please review CancerCompass Member Guidelines at http://www.cancercompass.com/common/guidelines.html ----

When cancer is diagnosed (husbands or wives) either stick by their mate or leave as they can't handle it.  Not an uncommon occurance.

I  used a combination of Poly MVA  10 days radiation to stop the severe pain, 2 weeks steroids and all natural things.  I might add that I am in touch with several people who had stage 1 & 2 and are in remission.  I have 2 friends that were in Stage 4 and are still with us.  They needed a combination of Polymva and revalmid. 1/3 revlamid and 100% dose poly. Others used Thalidamide with the poly. So there is hope and do not give up as you can make up your mind not to die.  Having a non stressful home life is very important.  If you have relatives here that can help please stay.

I  hope this has helped but feel free to email me:  Elaine

Petra, I know you're scared and depressed, but let me tell you there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  You've just got to find the right treatment for you AND the right doctor.  You probably need to get rid of that one ASAP!.  I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma December 2, 2006, and after a month of radiation treatments to treat the tumor on my spine, I began treatment with thalidimide and  was in remission three months later.  I'm 67 years old and was using a walker to move around the house in February and now I have been camping with my Girl Scout troop twice in the last month!

I believe it's up to you how you handle cancer.    You can either give up and let it defeat you, or  you can fight it to the end.  Nobody knows how long we  have -- I could step on a rattlesnake on one of my camping trips or die in a car accident -- but I will have been doing something I love and living my life right up to the  final moment.  I don't know how long my remission will last, but i intend to make the most of this time.  And if the thaladimide stops doing the job, I'll look for another treatment.  I heard of one man  whose been on thaladimide for 5 years.

So my advice to you is to first get a different doctor, and secondly to make the decision to take control of your illness and your life.  Going home to die shouldn't be an option!

Hi Micki

Thank you so much for your reply. You know when I wrote my message I was very depressed cause I had just found out. Now, I look at it differently and I am doing something to fight it. I drink 1 ounce of Noni juice every day, Blueberries, herbal supplements like Flaxseed oil, B-12,Iron, Coral Calium, Calcium Magnesium and a Multi Votamin from Bayer they just got in on the market it cost like $13,oo but it does something to your cells before tyey are renewd.I also eat alot of fruit and vegetables and watercress.I know it sounds like alot but it must work because I got my numbers down from 17.9 to 10.3 and 1.4 to 0.8. I was very happy. Now I am also taking Poly-Mva wich is supposed to help too,I was told that my # will go up at first but this will only be the dead cells and then the # go down. Oh ja ,I also drink 3 cups of green tea every day antioxidant.

So, I am still in smoldering myeloma and my doctor said yesterday it could take years before it goes into MM. Now I am trying to find Alkalized Water I have to get rid of all the toxins in my body I think I am doing a good job. I am not going to Germany anymore just to visit and I am staying with my husband, after all it has been 10 years and he really is not a bad man just a little inmature.

Hope to hear from you again and maybe you should try these things too:)

Take care and God bless you

Petra

Dear Petra,

So glad you are doing better.  Depression is a terrible thing and I'm glad you are recovering from it.  My husband of 40 years has just finally realized that I'm actually sick and not just being a hypochondriac (not sure about that spelling).  When the medications were about to kill me, he kept saying if I'd just get up and do something I'd feel better.  Now that I'm doing so well, he realizes that I simply was unable to control it.  I'm active again, but still have to have frequent rests.

I had never heard of smoldering multiple myeloma so looked it up on the I-net.  One thing I read was that it was closer to MGUS than to actual myeloma, and that led me to this article I think you might like to read.

http://www.allergynursing.com/questions3/mgus.html

My other question is about your doctor.  Is he an oncologist? or just your primary care physician?  My promary is the one who discovered my MM but immediately referred me to a wonderful oncologist.  Just something to think about.

Again, I'm glad to hear that you are doing better.  Life is good, so don't give up on it.  Get out there and live it, the best that you can.  Micki

Hi Micki

I had a slight heartattack on August 26 of last year and that's when my primary Doctor found that I had to many white bloodcells and monoclonal white cells. He then reffered me to an oncologist. This Doctor did a bonemarrow biobsy in December just 2 days before Christmas and just before newyears he told me that I had this type of cancer.Crushed me. Then I went to Germany to visit my Family thinking it will be the last time,it did really good and I was not thinking of it only once when we watched my Mom's 60th birthday video that's when I had to cry. But its all different now,I am positive and working on reversing this cancer with natural things. You should get the books from "kevin Treadau" It's called "Natural cures they don't want you to know about" Book one and two. There is so much information it will make you wonder.

Try it

God bless you

Petra
