My 64 mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 laryngeal cancer. She has opted not to have a total removal of her voice box. She has opted to have chemo and radiation . Right know she has a trach to breathe, has anyone had this treatment. Im wonder if she will have additional problems with the treatment because of this. Any information is appreciated.

Don't be afraid. Have faith and hope each day that all will bve for the good. I am a survivor of Laryx squamous cell carcinoma of the inner and outer cords. I had surgery which removed most of it and 37 radiation treatments, Monday-Friday each week til done. I am now scoped every 6 months instead of three and I consider myself cured as of May 2005.

My prayers are with you.

what kind of surgery did you have? did you have atrach? it has been a rough month my mom has been in and out of the hospital for an infection in her port. just recently she had her first chemo treatment .this was the scariest day of my life she went into shock right in front of me. apparently a severe allergic reaction .so much so the doctors told me she was gonna die when i got to the hospital.amazingly shes alive and kicking but im scared to try radiation. im scared to due anything now.everything turns out to have some adverse reaction most of the time not so good, but i am hopefull for my daughter that my mom will beat this thing i just cant take much more. im sure she cant either. thanks
