I had whipple surgery in July 2006 and went back in Jan. for PET Scan and told I am now cancer free and hope it remains like this,. It was tough going for the first few months and I lost 30 lbs. from April when I was diagnosed and have not gained any of it back, even though I make sure I eat all my meals and more, but think that is the way it will be. My sister at age 76 had the same operation as me and is now 85 and doing well. The only difference was it went from bile duc to her liver and mine went to pancreas, so I had a more intense operation then her. Had days where I don,t have a lot of energy but I was told this by a nurse that it takes over a year to get strong again and also have other days where my bowel works more often but can cope with this, as is not diarrhea but normal stool, except don,t like to be losing all my nutrients. I take 3 enzyme capsules 15 minutes before my meals and if I want a snack at night take 1 capsule and they seem to help retain the food. My Gastrointestional doctor prescribed these for me when I told her I was going so often to the toilet and she said they are not harmful, more natural and would be okay. I have to go backin May for aCat Scan again, and will have to do this for the next year or so every 4 to 6 months to make sure all is okay but at the moment feeling well, although stomach never feels like before, but at least I am alive and can go out to thestores and do other things. Don,t worry there is a light at the end of the tunnel but it takes time.
