Subject: pain in rib cage area

My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myelome in August 2004. She has had chemotherapy treatments and steroid treatments where she was pretty much in "remisssion" ( could not have stem cell due to lung deficiency)everything was going fine until Jan 2007 she was having a hard time breathing and was taken by ambulance to come and find out she had a heart attack which caused damage to kidneys and then needed dialysis. She was very weak and was hospitalized for about 2 weeks. She now suffers from severe pain and not even patches along with narcotic pain meds help. She is in the hospital as we speak with severe pain under her left side of rib cage and her oncologist cannot find out why she is having this pain. She is very weak has been given 3 units of blood since 05/01/2007 and is unable to walk or sit up in bed without pain. She has to lay flat. The doctor is going to run test on urine, and blood  they have ruled out blood clots, broken rib bones and pretty much all test regarding internal damage. Does anyone have any information or similar symptons and have suggestions or questions we can ask the doctor. I am at a lost and hate to see my mom in so much pain.
