Hello everyone. This is my first post on here and I have to say this a very supportive site. Well, my dad was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma last month (April) with a liver mass on the right lobe. It all started around August of 2006, when he had severe abdominal pain and they discovered he had gallstones. We waited and waited for appointments with doctors and they did not remove them until we had to bring him to the ER in November. Three whole months of pain. He couldn;t stand it any longer, he was vomiting and about to pass out from the pain so it took a trip to the ER to get something done. After a few months, the pain did not go away and also high levels of alkaline phosphatase on his liver panel, something still wasn't right. In January 2007, he had an MRCP done and that is when the mass was discovered on his liver. He later had ct scans and a biopsy and the conclusion was that he had cholangiocarcinoma with a liver mass. He seen a liver specialist in Houston, TX and he decided to go in and try to remove the mass since previous ct scans had shown the cancer not to be anywhere else. On May 9, 2007 my dad had his operation and 60% of his liver was removed. The doctor came out afterward and said that after he took out the 60%, that he seen another spot but that he couldn't remove it because it would be too much of his liver to take out.So, he said he took a biopsy of it and the rest of the liver and would have the results in a few days. Four days later (mother's day) he came in my dad's hospital room and said it was cancer. Sadly, we listened as he said that he would refer my dad to an oncologist and that he could possibly take small doses of chemo. Well, that appoinment with the oncologist is Wed, May 30. We will go and listen to all the options and go from there. From what I have been researching and also from what a lot of people say is that liver cancer doesn't respond well to chemo? I was wondering if anyone has chose not to receive any medication and just went on a veggie diet, and if so, how has it worked out ? Also, has anyone used essiac tea ?? Thank ya'll very much for your time... Paula
