Does anyone know any long term survivors of liver cancer? My father was recently diagnosed with HCC in January of 2007. He had a resection in mid march and just found out the cancer is back with approximately 4-5 tumors. He is not a candidate for transplant or additional resection. I know the prognosis is not good but I am trying to find some hope of people that have had long term survival.
Have been battling liver cancer (cholangiocarcinoma) for 8 years and 4 months. Surgeries, radiation, and starting my 4th or maybe 5th chemo regimen on Monday. Well thats a maybe as I want to go on vacation first. Originally started on left lobe of liver. recurred to right lobe and mets to both lungs. Recently mets to 10th rib and spine bone T-12-S-1 area of which had 3-D radiation for them. Also 8 months ago had radiation to part of the liver which has remain stable to date. Chemo approved by FDA in late 2006 called Taxotere is what oncologist would like to try next because of the hot spots that popped up on rib and spine. This chemo has been used primarily for head and neck but some small studies have shown a small percentage of good responses.
