Hi Mike in Az, I just found your message. Sorry to be so late re-connecting...lots of people illness in my house, at the moment. Firstly to answer your question. My dog is still alive and pleasant, looks as healthy as a horse. But she isn't/ I am treating her herbally. My local Vet doesn't do herbs but suggests we bring her in for "blood work" every two weeks. When her Values tell us there is "no longer much point in continuing, then it's time to let go". For your boy, I suggest you do this. The blood work tells them if the liver is starting to close down, I guess. You could ask your Vet about the exact readings. I am so sorry about your dog, I didn't know my heart could physically ache so much, each day anew.
Secondly, Diva is doing ok. She had the diagnosis of Lymphoma on Dec 16th, we put her on immediate chemo, and after 1 week she had a severe reacton to Prednisone (nearly lost her the day before Christmas) so have backed off everything, except the Graviola. Seeing as she has done so well with ONLY that, ( since March 2004). I connected with an herbal Vet,Robert Mc Dowell in Australia and have just yesterday received two bottles of specialty herb mixtures (drops) one specifically for canine cancer, i.e. an immune support liquid, and the other is just for Lymphoma.I am doing a raw diet he reccomends for cancer in dogs. (herbal-treatments.com) Thirdly,
The official Peroxicam definition on the web states that is a "pallitive treatment designed to alliviate symptoms rather than cure". Even the Peroxicam website states it releives pain, tenderness, inflamation-swelling, and stiffness, caused by arthritis. The classification is as a non steroidal,anti-inflamnatory drug. I was really uncomfortable with giving it to a dog who cannot tell me her possible side effects: headache, dizziness, nervousness, upset stomach, cramps, or constipation! Ok, The rest: gas, diarrhea and vomitting I can figure out for myself. One is to contact the doctor immediately if these things occur: ringing in the ears (!) swelling of hand , feet or lower legs, skin rash, itching, bloody vomit or tarry stools. My vet told me all it could do was to" make her comfortable". She hasn't seemed uncomfortable to me.(except with the Prednisone) I gave her Graviola to reduce her tumor. That I am comfortable with. I intend to take her this week to the Vet for blood tests again to see what her values are. I think this is a good plan. My vet said the Lymphoma is not associatd with her TCC. But in some online University of Georga Tcc cases, up to 50 percent metastisized, some to the lungs, and others to lymphnodes. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, I'm afraid. Wish I could be more helpful, Mike. Do what your heart tells you. Nannyno, for DIVA
