Hi Tom,
My mother has a stage 3C ovarian carcinosarcoma, which is the most rare and most aggressive form of ovarian cancer. She just finished her 3rd of (hopefully) 6 chemo treatments (ifosfomide and cysplatin) and is doing very well under the circumstances (which means she is not super sick - she suffers from nausea which is controlled with medication and exhaustion as well as some nerve pain.) Through cancer compass, 2 women have written me that their mothers, both of whom had advanced ovarian cancers, are in remission. I also know of a woman here in my area, who was in remission for a year, after being treated for a stage 3C ovarian cancer. She is now undergoing more chemo for a recurrence of the cancer in her liver. The way I am approaching this devastating disease is that until someone tells me my mother can't be in the small percentage of women that make it past 3 or 5 years, I have no reason to believe she can't beat the odds. Best of luck to you and the woman you are concerned for.
