My husband and I just found out today that he has a tumor on his bladder. He has had painful and difficult urination for a couple months now. He had a urine culture done and was prescribed high dose antibiotics for a urinary tract infection. Another doctor said his prostate was inflamed. Constant pain on urination and blood in his urine sent him to another urologist who determined that he has a tumor. He is not scheduled for a biopsy until next Wed. (He's been taking Advil for the pain, and this is a blood thinner.) I guess we will not know anything until then, but we are both very scared. I can't understand it, because he has never smoked, does not drink, never drinks coffee, rarely until now takes medication, does not work with hazardous chemicals, eats very well, is active - a runner, cyclist, swimmer, weight lifter - does not have a history of urniary infections. In December he was sick with bronchitis, as was I. Urinary problems followed. Years ago, I had a urinary tract infection following an upper respitory infection, so that is what we thought it was. He has been very healthy - no pain or any indication of a problem until December with the blood in the urine. He is 72 years old, but looks and acts much younger. I'm sorry if I'm rambling, but my question is, what should we expect and ask from here on out? We want to be as knowledgeable as possible. We've been told the urologist is one of the best the field. Any input you can provide will be very appreciated.
