Hi All. firstly I wanted to say how much admiration I have for posters on this board and the way you have fought this evil scourge.
I live in Ireland. My mother who is 60 was diagnosed with Advanced Ovarian Cancer on Oct 4. (Stage 3c). It has spread across here abdomen (stomach, bowel, spleen). Dr said the cancer is like a layer of cling film on these organs rather than a mass and gave her 3-6 months and reccoemended chemo. The bowel was badly affected and she has an obstruction. they expected that 1st chemo session would resolve the obstruction. She had that session 4 weeks ago and the bowels have not moved much at all. Anyway today the Oncologist told us there was no hope and we had to look at long term pallative care. They will not give any more chemo as she got a really bad infection last week.
I am devastated and also shocked that they will not even consider a second dose of chemo, even if her overall health improves. I also would have thought that they would need 2/3 sessions before any real impact. While I don't doubt her knowledge, I am looking for a second opinion. Has anybody experienced anything like this? She was only diagnosed 7 weeks ago and now the doctors are talking about weeks left. This is the worst time of my life. Any hope stories out there?
Col
