I was diagnosed with a pre-cancerous AK (fairly small) on my face a month or so ago. I am 43 years old and definitely have had my fair share of time in the sun. I told my dermatologist that I did not want to have to worry about getting these in the future and she recommended doing the Efudex treatment for 3 weeks, twice a day on my entire face. I agreed to do it, but am really nervous about it now after doing more research about it on the internet.
Am I just hearing the the bad stories on line or do most people have a really hard time with this treatment? Again, right now I only have one small visible AK, but I understand that more can come to head once the treatment is started. I am trying to figure out the best time to do the treatment, as I don't want to be cooped up in the house during the holiday season, but also want to get it over with. What was the normal down times for people going through this treatment on their face? Any words of wisdom to get through this treatment? I am not vain, but am picturing myself homeward bound for weeks - is that realistic?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
