All of our prayers are with you. My partner was diagnosed with non operable LP on the first of Feb. 2007. The only out of the boundary treatments we have been doing are Hydrazine Sulfate, which seemed to have helped with the wasting issue (my Dad has used this stuff for the 16 years he has been dealing with Prostate Cancer he didn't catch in time, he is still going strong), and in the beginning Life Extension protein drink mixed with ice cream, cream, half and half, etc. Our treatments have consisted of Oxaliplatin drip, Epirubicin push, and Xeloda tablets (originally 2000 mg. every day). IV chemo was every three weeks. We have had incredible results after 9 months and have not had to change the drug regimen yet. He has picked up 28 pounds, from a low of 122 (after losing 50 pounds prior to diagnosis). Please don't ask what our cholesterol readings are after all the butter and gravy running through our household, lol. You just do what you have to do. Marijuana has helped in particular the first week of infusion, as his appetite is not up to snuff. Other than that, a healthy attitude, lots of love, trips to look forward to, and living every day seems to be the way to go. Our oncologist finally told him on Friday during treatment, that he has outlived everyone they have had through their clinic this year (three others have passed), but we are still going strong. Anyone that really knows him, knows he has been an overachiever his whole life, so we aren't surprised at all, but the Doctor is thrilled. I will once again recommend "Love, Medicine, and Miracles" by Dr. Bernie Segal for both patients and caregivers. I know this is a tragic thing to deal with and after you get past the "Why ME?" stage and into the "Why NOT Me" stage, you can just get on with it. I didn't think we would, but after about 2 weeks on the pity pot, we got on with it. We are very thankful, and are glad to get up every morning. Chemo has been a true blessing I hope you can get to the place we have been for the last 10 months, it has been a blessing. Most importantly, faith in God and not being afraid of what's coming down the road, definately helps. Turn it over to God and He will take care of it.
