Hello, I am 26 years old currently.  I have watched my father battle prostate cancer for the past 7 years.  His battle finally ended December 16th.  Through all the years of watching him fight the cancer, I've seen things, things that I want to keep my daughter from seeing also.

I was told that they don't typically check you until you are 50, but by chance, they checked my father at the age of 47.  The doctors decided he had the cancer for some time before it was found.  Should I start checking every year, since I have such a higher probability of getting it?  I'm thinking it is better safe than sorry, but just wanted some outside thoughts.

In my eyes a couple moments of uncomfortable every year would easily beat any treatment for Cancer (prostate or any other type).

Thanks!!!!

It seems that the younger you are when diagnosed, the more aggressive the cancer is.  Your father died at age 54?  I'd be getting a PSA test and DRE annually starting NOW.  It's a simple blood test and a simple exam, pay for it yourself if you have to.  I skipped the DRE once, and on my next exam was sent for a biposy which found Gleason 8 and cancer outside the gland.
