My father is being treated for rectal cancer. He is 6 weeks into chemotherapy and has lost a massive amount of weight. He is 6"0 and now weighs about 110 lbs. He can't keep any food down despite various different drugs to help. A nutritionist has suggested a no fat diet to no avail. I would be grateful for any suggestions. I am worried this cannot go on for much longer. Thanks!:)
That sounds like alot of weight to lose so early in the treatments. I've heard of treatments being stopped for awhile until the patient can gain back some of his strength and, in the case of your father, weight. I lost 40 lbs during my 5 1/2 mos of chemo but it was pretty steady & gradual the whole time, not quick & massive as your father has. The prescribed anti-nausea pills helped some, but the only other thing I did was to eat mostly fruits & veggies, which was about all that I had an appetite for during those months. I hope that someone else has some suggestions that can help you more than I probably have. I'll be praying for your father. My experience has been recent enough that I can still feel some of those side effects in my memory!
