Where can I find recipes for my dad who just got home after esophageal cancer surgery? He does have a feeding tube... but the doctors say he can eat soft food now.  What's good? what's bad?

Thanks for any suggestions

Hello,

I have looked everywhere for recipes for my father as well.  He had an esophagectomy on Jan. 18th.

I made some mashed potatos, mashed carrots, butternut squash and soup for my Dad and he tolerated them well.  He also did well with cream of wheat.  From other messages I have read, some people have problems with sweets, some spicy ect.  Everyone seems different.  My father cannot tolerate Ensure or feedings through his j-tube.  But now has tolerated small amounts of chicken and I made shepard's pie and put the meat filling in the food processor and put the potatos on top of that.  He tolerated that as well.  But I think the is key is SMALL amounts and frequent meals.  I have heard that over and over.  Also, not to drink with your meal.  My Dad has had 1 real bad episode with dumping and the past couple days has had some less severe dumping.  It seems to be a trial and error kind of thing unfortunately.

I wish you all the best.  I hope your Dad does well. This is a difficult recovery but he is lucky to have you help him through it.

Good luck,

Laura
