I would like to hear from patients and caregiver/spouses of Multiple Myeloma. My wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma March 04 1996. She was 33 yrs. old. We were told that there is no cure and she also had Kidney failure. She was not expected to live past the weekend. I can assure you that there is hope in fighting and surviving this terrible disease. The road is hard and very emotional. Is there anyone else who has survived this long or longer? I need Info on treatment for someone with this Bone Cancer this long.My wife's Multiple Myeloma Is now in remission, but she has several collapsed vertabrae.Any Suggestions on controlling pain.

Congratulations on 12 years of survival!!!  My husband is in his 3rd year of survival.  He had radiation for the pain in his back and ribs which seemed to help greatly. He went through vertebroplasty where they "glued" one of his vertebra back together.  He also has found that taking oxycodone (20mg) every 12 hours regularly with extra strength tylenol (fast release) works for his pain most of the time.   My husband was 72 at the time of his diagnosis.  We didn't think he would be able to have a stem cell transplant but Duke Medical Center took him into their program because otherwise he was in good shape.  It makes me feel good to know that there are long-term survivors out there!!!  Ditto on the road being long and emotional - This is the hardest job I have ever had - and I am a survivor for 11 years of breast cancer.
