Hi all,

My Dad had stage 3 EC, which is now back with confirmed mets to the hip, and possible mets brewing in lungs and liver.   We are gathering opinions and hoping to start chemo next week.

Dana Farber is suggesting FOLFOX and his onc. at home (in consultation with Sloan Kettering, whom we hope to speak to directly) is suggesting Taxol with a 5-FU pump.

Does anyone have any feedback (positive or negative) about either of these protocols?   Of course success stories are particularly appreciated!   We are hoping to buy him as much time as possible, which as much quality of life as possible.

Many thanks!

Courtney

My son just did folfox and avastin(which I would add). had troubvle enduring the chemo after the 4th and 5th drips so does not want to do it any more. we felt that it had probably stopped progression(ie stable disease). on the fifth drip the dropped fluorouracil and leucovorin and added pills of Xeloda. Still was too much for him. Normally this protocol is considered not too toxic and does not have that bad side effects but son decided not to pursue it. they also gave us B-6 and glutamine for the peripheral neuropathy. He got it any way. no side effects from this stuff but we have no idea if it helped him with neuropathy or not.good luck.

Many thanks for the feedback.  I have heard that the protocol works  but that the neuropathy is a real problem.   My Dad is so weak now, not sure how is he going to tolerate anything to be honest.  They are now talking about hospitalizing him for the 1st infusion so they can help him through it.  I feel much better with this.

We have been trying to get them to give him Avastin, and we are getting resistence - saying there is no proof of efficacy in EC - though everyone I know who has been on it has been stabilized.   It would be contraindicated in my father for 4-6 weeks anyway bec. he just had a talc pleurodesis procedure to clear up his pleural effusion.

What are they talking about switching him to now that he is off the FOLFOX?

Many thanks and best wishes to you and your son,

Courtney
