My husband age 67
was diognoised with prostate cancer 12 years ago coming this June. At that time his PSA was over 300. The cancer had gotten on the outside of the prostate. Doctor recommended hormone therapy (luprone) and cassodex. And the most horrid of all.. the outlook of about 18 months to live with this medical treatment. His doctor was a urologist at the ISU school of med and he was the professor specilizing in proste cancer. But at the time of that news he also told us to NEVER let any doctor tell you that you only have a certain amount of months to live. That was aprox 12 years ago. We feel so very blessed!!!
In 2006 after the hormone therapy taking down his PSA levels to below .04 to 1.00 they now began to rise a bit and he had 39 radiation treatments. Which took care of his PSA again.
Now here in 2008 his PSA is raising again. 10.4. He has had this doctor for about 2 years now and he says it is back and is very aggressive. He told him he has maybe one year,,, possibly two but he would doubt that. He told us that and that was it.. We see him again next month.. The only change he made was from seeing my husband every 4 months for his luprone injection.
Maybe after our blessing of 12 years we should not ask for more. But it is not my husbands time! I know God took care of it the first time and He could do it again. No one knows how long we have. But my husband wants and I want for him and us another 12 YEARS at least!!! Has anyone made the long distance run?
I also know this is rather persona too.. any maybe you are struggling with it..but you men that have had the hormone therapy know it makes you impodent...as well as some other treatments also as done. Well fella's if your wife or girlfriend loves you this will mean nothing! Nothing at all! My husband worried for serveral years about this. Not believing he was a whole man.. I am 55 and will tell you,,, that part of your life has not one thing to do with being a man in her eyes! My hubby is 110 % man.. He's not only my hubby now.. he is my best friend my best buddy too.. We want and need you!
