I had HIFU treatment Dec 2007. My experience was superior. My PSA was 5.6 and my Gleason was 7 (3+4) . IThe procedure started at 7 am, and I was home by 3 pm.
I had the supra-pubic catheter for over 3 weeks, and other than having very occassional discomfort from the catheter, everything progressed well. I have not experienced any urinary problems,other than urgencey, when you have to go, you have to go, but I do not wear pads, and have not had any issues, and I am able to perform sexualy without any drugs or aids.
The only medication I am on is Flomax.
My first post procedural PSA was 0.28
Based upon my experience, I can highly recommend HIFU, as long as your numbers are suitable for the treatment, and I suggest that one studies the various options available. I had my procedure done in Toronto, where I live, by a very reputable doctor.
