Ok, do I have your attention? I normally try to go through as many postings as I can and reply as appropriate, but for those that I don't answer and for all those to yet be posted, I wanted to offer this:
My dad's story story starts in a similar fashion that many others do. A shocking diagnosis of cancer - in his case it was colon cancer with mets to the liver. The first doc we saw gave us no option but immediate surgery and then wait 6 months and try to 'be comfortable'. She was a quack - although from a reputable practice.
What we found was far different. We found our way to our oncologist, Dr. Ahmed Ghany at the OSU James hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He and his staff at OSU East are the cream of the crop when it comes to care! When dad was ready for surgery (something many docs thought would never be possible) he sent us to the best he could find for a very complicated surgery - led by Dr. David Geller at the UPMC liver cancer center.
Dr. Geller is unreal. His expertise and aggressive yet successful surgery and practices are legendary with those who have had the pleasure to work with him. His compassion and attention to patient and family understanding is precedent setting. He is the Midwest's best kept secret. He has helped so many from this message board, so many of the cancer patients we have met along the way...I canNOT say enough good about this man.
If you live far or can't make the snowy blustery trip to Pitt, he has consulted over the phone, fax and email. If you have any liver issues and are not getting the care you think you should be or would just like another opinion, please seek out Dr. Geller. Tell him Michelle from Ohio sent you.
God bless you all...it takes a village to deal with this cancer beast. I am just forever grateful there are unvelieveable docs like Dr. Ghany and Dr. Geller out there!
Please let me know if I can provide any more info to anyone.
