My husband has been diagnosed with bile duct cancer.

Last year March 2007 my husband hand a stint  placed in the bile duct due to an itching problem.  4 days later I rushed him to the hospital only to find the stint had plugged up and poisoned his entire body.  He was in critical care unit for 20 days and his kidneys shut down so had to have dialysis and also got herpes all over his face, had to be intubated  due to a blood clot in this throat.  He has had to have the stints replace every 3 months and now this last time ,( Feb)  they found a tumor just outside the bile duct and the head of the pancreas.

The doctor said he has to have the whipple prodedure.  They did a CT scan but it did not show the tumor.  We have an appointment with the doctor on the 9th.  Our surgeon want to send us to Denver to the University hospital.

Should we be looking elsewhere?  Our insurance is a HMO so we can't go out of state.  Does anyone know if this is still the early stage if they want to operate?  Should he be following a special diet?  He is feeling well, get tired but can still go out to the fields and take care of his cows.

Help   I need some info.

So Sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis.

You may want to check with your insurance company to see what they will actually pay for and some of the treatment centers will be able to help figure out the payment/insurance stuff.

Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Dana Farber, Sloan Kettering, Mass General and plenty of other cancer treatment centers have extensive experience with the Whipple Surgery and would better be able to give you info regarding what to expect, etc. As far as what to eat for cancer in general, is of course lots of veggies and especially greens (collard greens, brussel sprouts, spinach, kale, broccoli, and other antioxidants as well as reducing sugar, caffeine, fats, red meat, etc.)

Keep a positive attitude, Believe, and have Faith.

Blessings to you both and your family,

My sister's voice
