Subject: Need info on personal experience with medi-port..
Date: 04/13/2008
Hi! I was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2007 and went into remission. I have a 2 1/2 year treatment plan, so I won't be done with treatment unti June 2009. Bummer. I've had three picc lines since I was diagnosed and I want to get a medi-port before my prom and summer vacation. The no swimming part of the picc line and the fact that I can't wear shirts that show it really bother me. I really want to get a medi-port considering I only get Vincristine every four weeks and the picc line is such a pain. So my questions are..what is your experience with a medi-port? Does it show under the skin? (I am very skinny.) If you're a woman, does it chafe against your bra? Is there a big noticeable scar? Do you get embarrassed of it at all if it shows? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
