Barrett's (severe) diagnosed 8 years ago. Had Nissan fundiplication. Took care of GERD. Have had UGI/scope every 2 years since. Symptoms of extreme gagging for past 2-3 years. Scopes show no advancement of Barretts according to less than desirable clinic/hospital in my town. Last scope 3/08. Doc says no more scopes for 5 years. Not only while brushing teeth, but I can be sitting watching TV, or driving my car and start gagging. In the back of my mind this is an esophageal problem. No weight loss. In fact I could lose 30#. Wondering.. anyone with overstimulation of gag reflex as a symptom of esophageal problems?
If you have Barrett's syndrome, this means you have lost the squamous layer of cells that protect the esophagus...... the layer that is Barrets is quite prone to cancer, and it also stiffens so you have problems swallowing and problems with regurgitation.
Please be VERY CAREFUL.
