Hi, I'm Birgit. I am new too to this site and to not knowing what's going on. Thirteen years ago I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia. A condition were the stomach lining cannot absorb vitamin B12. I need monthly B12 shots and that take care of that problem. However the risk of stomach cancer increases. Two years ago, I needed 3 blood transfusions, due to bleeding ulscers in my large intestine. Turned out the source of ulscers came from a medication I took for my back pain, which is severe at times. My last endoscopy showed metaplasia. I have read on different web-sites that will turn into cancer. Metaplasia is a change of the cells in the stomach lining. The body is producing them to deal with the change in the stomach lining due to the pernicious anemia. As I understand this, these cells then turn cancerous, but I don not know if this is for sure or how long it takes for this to happen. In Sept I have my next endoscopy. My dr. is on maternity leave, Therefore I cannot ask her any questions. So I know what it is like to not know what the future brings.

I hope you get good news

Birgit
