Subject: RE: New Brain Cancer Treatments
Date: 04/24/2008

My husband took Rapamune with Tarceva last September and October.  One of the two of them made him very ill...his face became swollen, red, peeling, sores in his mouth, just feeling awful.  And all to no avail...his GBM tumor grew considerably larger during that time.  This was after trying several other treatments, including Avastin and CPT11 for 4 months.  At that point we went to Sloan Kettering and he began a clinical trial using Temodar - low doses daily.  Ironically, he had been given Temodar at the usual 5/23 protocol shortly after he had his first resection in Oct. 04, and it didn't work.  However, now, the Temodar is causing his tumor to shrink!  It is back to the size it was in August of last year, and he has absolutely no side effects.  He's a 61 year old surfer with a zest for life and a great spirit, so maybe that is helping too.  We know it can't last forever, but it is giving us more precious time.
