Subject: VP-16 with Avastin experience?
Date: 04/24/2008

My dear friend (30 years old) was diagnosed with a grade 4 GBM on 12/23/06.  The tumor was not operable so he had radiation and many rounds of chemo including CPT11, Avastin and multiple rounds of Temodar.  His disease was stable for several months but it has come back with a vengeance.  On one of his 6 week MRI's the tumor was barely detectable and on the next it was 1 cm.  He had a followup on his visit to Duke eight days later and it had doubled.  They immediately enrolled him in a trial with RAD-001.  He just went to his four week followup and the tumor is still growing rapidly so they've switched him to a trial with VP-16 and Avastin.  He said on the phone today that the VP-16 didn't have bad side effects but I read up on the internet and it sounds like good old-fashioned chemo:  nausea, vomiting, hair loss, diarrhea, etc.

Has antone out there done VP-16 for recuurent GBM, especially in combination with Avastin, and what was your experience?
