In November my dad was diagnosed with NHL. It has been a long and hard road and currently he is in the hospital in the ICU and has been there for 40 + days now. He is stable now finally but there is so much ahead of him. The medical care he is receiving is wonderful. My mom has not been working so she can help take care of him and in the middle of all of this he lost his job and now we are in a court battle with his employer. Needless to say there is a lot of stress and sleepless nights in my house. We are also financiallly struggling. He has COBRA for his insurance so atleast he is covered but I am sure nost of you know that is not cheap. Plus the mortage and the bills we are not sure where to begin. Has anyone found any charities or organizations that have provided assistance to them. I talked to the American Cancer Society and they gave me some ideas I was just wondering if anyone has had success with any of the organizations out there????? I wish all of you good health and you are in my thoughts.

I am so sorry that your family has to go through this...I totally understand where your family is coming from. My husband was 25 when he was diagnosed, lost his job, and is now on permanent disability. I am not sure if they have told your mother to check into social security? Usually this takes a few months, but it helps in the long run and will give your family some income. Also check and see if there are any Medicare/Medicaid options for them as well. One one the most helpful resources seems to be in the actual medical facility, has a social worker been able to see them? The social workers at both our local hospital and at the University hospital have been really helpful. Also try the Children's Lymphoma and Luekemia Society and there is also just the Lymphoma and Luekemia Society, these will help as well, and you don't have to be a kid to get them to help out, we mainly use them for mileage to and from appointments, which are 3 hours away, but they also help with other financial issues. I am not sure in what state or city you are, but check with a few community agencies, these places can usually help find people or agencies as well. If you need any other information, feel free to write me again and stay strong...Another thing that is a good idea would be to try to get a benefit dinner together and raise money that way, most churches will help with these and some of the societies will even help with the planning. We were lucky that both my husband and I were/are in the medical field and coworkers and others really pitched in with info and resources. Good luck and God bless. B:)
