My mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer the middle of April. She starts treatment this week with the drug Torisel. I'm a little nervous for her as I have read about the side effects and hope she will be able to cope. Her cancer is also stage 4 and dr told her she won't see the summer of 2009. She plans to prove him wrong! She's a fighter and very strong in her faith. It was wonderful to read your message of positive results and hope your treatments remain good.
If you could share more about your treatments I would greatly appreciate it. I'm always looking for information for her to help her fight this.

By now your mother should have had her Torisel treatment. I hope she is doing well with it.
The results of the C Scan I recently had and has shown some positive results.
There was a decreased size to the pulmonary mestastases. There are 6 mestastatic lesions noted. The three largest showed decreased size as follows:
Lesion 1: Left upper lobe
Was.. 2.6 x 2.5..
NOW: 1.5 x 1.7

Lesion 2: Superior segment left lower lobe:
Was .. 2.4 x 3.1 ..
NOW: 1.7 x 2.7

Posterior basal segment of the right lower lobe

I consider even a small improvement better than nothing at all.. I am still receiving Torisel every Thursday through a Port. (Which I am so glad I got that. I hated getting stuck so many times. The Port has given me no troubles at all.
The side effects a minimal. I still have some bumps on my head that do not really bother me. My main thing in my legs and feet. I have Edema. And my feet are so swollen that my daughter got me a pair of men's cordoroy slippers to wear for comfort..They look funny, but are comfortable.. My oncologist prescribed Lasix for me and I am taking that once a day. Hasn't helped yet. LOL. Still got big fat feet.
Other than being tired all the time I guess that's about it.
Tell you mom to stay strong. I will be praying for her.
