Lung Cancer Iib

Subject: Lung Cancer IIB
Date: 05/10/2008
My husband was diagnosed with IIB (size of tumor was large, 1 lymph node inolved) in June 06 and had surgery to have a right lung pneumonectomy within a few weeks.  He started chemo in Sept 06 however needed to have 2-3 procedures to fix a fistula that developed (a small hole in rt lung cavity) - so chemo was put off until his lung cavity filled with the approp fluid. Jan 06 PET showed 1-2 cm growth on vertebrae - did Taxol Carbo thru March - however the growth did not change - so did 15 rounds of radiation and the PETs were clean since June 07.  In Dec he had unrelated abdominal surgery so did not have chemo early Dec - mid March.  He went for his regularly scheduled 3 month PET and doc said something slight showed on area around where rt lung was removed and the CT showed nothing.  Diagnosis was to wait 6-8 weeks as still getting stronger from the abd surgery.  We just went for PET and brain MRI - slight symptoms going on - and showed clean PET, inflammation around lung decreased however 1-2 cm tumor on brain - diagnosis is surgery to remove - at this point told better option as would relieve his edema and GamaKnife would not do that - anyone ever been thru somethign like this - we all know that dreaded waiting game on PETs and MRIs but this certainly did throw us over the edge.
