September 2007 dad admitted to ER with severe pain in his right side and back.
5" (12cm) tumor discovered.
First biopsy revealed small cell, after the second biopsy it was called an Atypical neuroendocrine carcinoid.
The pain killers were terrifying. He had very real hallucinations, lost A LOT of weight and his strength.
They decided on surgery and in October 2007 they removed the tumor, a third of his lung, 4 ribs and told us it was a poorly differentiated mass.
In November 2007 he had a scan and was told the scar area had hot spots. He started chemo carboplatin/etoposide, 3 days every 3 weeks. It was very hard but he got through it with no major complications. He eased off the painkillers and began to gain weight.
Chemo finished at the end of March 2008. He's had nerve pain around the scar area and has complained of lots of aches and pains across his back and shoulders regularly which we all put down to healing from his surgery.
There's been a delay to start radiotherapy as the lymph nodes looked hot and no one could decide where best to zap him first.
He's been feeling better and better. His hair is growing and he's fit and eating well.
May 9th 2008, he spent a happy day playing with his granddaughters. Later that evening he felt 'something was very wrong' His fingers twitched uncontrollably, he had weakness in his arm and couldn't talk properly. Minutes later he had a full seizure.
He is now back in hospital and has been told the lung cancer has matastasized.
He has 2 brain tumors. He is 67 years old.
What do we do now?
Has anyone else got through this? Does he have a chance?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless.

Did he ever have an MRI of his brain to detect the tumors?  I will continue to follow your messages.  The journey is unpredictable but hang in there.
