I am 69 years old and had the brachytherapy done back on Nov. 29, 2007. It was my choice of treatment because of the two other alteratives that were discussed with me. One was external radiation and the other was radical removal of the prostate. I don't know anything about HIFU so I can't elaborate on it. I do know that the success of the treatment you choose to do depends greatly on the doctor that preforms the procedure. In my case I have a great respect for my doctors ability and have had what I understand is probably a minimal amount of side effects. I haven't been back to the doctor to see how I am doing in regard to the cancer. I have that appointment Monday the 19th. As for incontenance and problems with the bowel. I have had none so far. I do have some discomfort in those areas, but I haven't had any problems with bowel movements or urinating except for some slight irritation in those areas. That is also going away at this time. I would suggest that you get a second opinion after you discuss it with your urologist. They usually recommend what their specialty is and that is quite understandable. The best of luck to you in what ever you choose.
