I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia for 18 years. One day,I read all the symptoms of hypothyroidism and decided that that was my problem after 18 long years. I brought the list to my family doctor without the label of hypothyroidism and asked her if this sounded like me. She said yes completely. My bloodwork was completely normal for TSH,T4, T3 etc. I had also read about Thyroid Resistance Syndrome where the body does not respond normally to thyroid hormone and also one where the quality produced is not good. I was convinced that something was wrong so I finally got to see an endocrinologist. She was dismissing my claims until she felt my thyroid and said although she felt no nodule that it did not feel as bouncy as everyone elses thyroid.Long story short,I had ultrasound and a small nodule was detected.FNA revealed papillary cancer.
Total Thyroidectomy and NO MORE PAIN (previously head ,back, legs and monthly migraines all 63 of the symptoms listed on www.fibrohugs.com) The Doctors do not seem to believe me that I have had such total pain relief. I am on Eltroxin 100 mcg.
Of note, during the Fine Needle biopsy, I heard the technician say to the Doctor that my thyroid looked really hypo. Interesting because the blood work right up to surgery never was abnormal.
I was lucky in that I pushed my way into that endo and did not wait for that nodule to grow until somebody could feel it.
