Good Morning Bubbles,
No, my Ideopathic Myelofibrosis was confirmed with my third BMB. The first was a dry tap, so was the second, but, the third time was a charm. The fourth showed an increase in the amount of fiber in my bone marrow, and the fifth was another dry tap.
The Jak 2 gene mutation was confirmed with the third BMB. We didn't know that until we got a copy of the BMB. You are very wise to keep copies of every test you have. We have a notebook binder, file everything in it, and carry it with us to the appointments. We have learned that our record keeping is more complete than the Dr's, and correct theirs on occasion.
My problem is not with Iron deficiency. My problem is with the fiber clogging my bone marrow and not allowing the marrow room to make blood. The Thalidomide is to clear the fiber out of the marrow, and the Aranesp is to help the body make blood.
We didn't get to this point of treatment overnight. It takes time to diagnose your exact disease before treatments can be prescribed. If you read the other posts too, you will discover that MF comes with many different symptoms and stages. We are not all alike. It is very frustrating for all concerned, including the Doctors. Patience is very helpful to all. You will get answers, but, it will take time. From all I've learned here MD Anderson is a great place for you to be treated by.
May God Bless You,
