Subject: Leukemia or ITP?
Date: 06/24/2008
A routine physical turned into more than i bargained for when my platelet count came in at 110,000. A follow up 2 months later showed the same. Met with a hemotologist 2 weeks later and platelet count was 91,000. He took a bone marrow sample and I am now waiting 7-10 days for the results. Because I have no other symptoms he doubts it is acute leukemia. He says it is problably ITP, but he needs to rule out something more serious. He said that the rest of my blood work was all normal. Knew nothing about Leukemia before this, but having a hard time coming to grips with the idea I could be so sick, while feeling so good. Oddly, he said that the drop to 91K could be a good thing becasue Leukemia usually results in a steady, but gradual drop, while ITP casues platelets to jump all around. I would be grateful if anyone with similar experience could give me some feedback.
