Last year my dad was diagnosed with Melanoma, he had a tumor on his lung, but no primary detected. It was surgically removed and was successful for a while. Yesterday we were told within three months of his last pet scan that there is a new tumor in the same lung and uptake in his left hand as well as his left foot. Lymph nodes are also enlarged.
The doctors said surgery is not an option because of the scar tissue from the last surgery and even if they did, because of the enlarged lymph nodes it may not make a difference. They are going to get back to us with a plan of action, but when we started this journey we were told chemo and radiation are not very effective with this type of cancer.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or heard of any new treatments? He wants to fight, but feels there is no hope and the doctors weren't too optimistic. What about cyberknife, has anyone had experience and what were the results?
Thanks for any info.
