Subject: Aranesp: Anyone have any personal info on this treatment?

My mother has PC, inoperable so far, and is on the generic of Gemzar for chemo. Her RBC keeps slipping and when it was 8.0, they transfused her with two units of packed RBC. This brought her up to approx. 10.9. She resumed chemo, and this wk. her RBC's were 8.3 again. This time, they wanted to start her on Aranesp, a drug like Procrit, to boost the production of RBC's. I know that blood clots are a problem for all types of cancer patients, but it seems this drug also promotes clot formation. I have suggested Vitamin E capsules to Mom, as she cannot take aspirin. If anyone can share their experience, warnings, good news, or whatever, I would be very grateful. Thanking all of you. BJ
