Everyone is different. I thought this website might be useful to you for now: http://patienteducation.upmc.com/Pdf/Esophagectomy.pdf
I don't stay strictly on the diet my doctor gave me, I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I eat almost everything now after 4 years, but this is what I am supposed to follow. I do still throw up things that don't agree. The more I think about it, the more I realize I do avoid sodas, fried foods, oj and peanut butter, but I love my coffee and donuts.
Check with your doctor about this, this is what mine said:
"Follow an antireflux regimen for the rest of your life. This includes:
- Do not lie down for at least 3 to 4 hours after meals.
- Raise the head of the bed 4 to 6 inches
- Decrease excess weight.
- Avoid citrus juices, chocolate, coffee and other caffeinated beverages, carbonated beverages, fatty and fried foods.
- Avoid tight fitting clothing.
- Avoid cigarettes and other tobacco products.
- Avoid, if possible, medications which decrease lower esophageal sphincter tone. Talk to your provider."
Best wishes as you learn your way through the maize of EC recovery.
