How much longer? Weeks or maybe 2 months? My dear, dear old dad is/was an extremely healthly 78 year old man and was diagnosed the beginning of Dec. 2007 with Pancreatic cancer that had metastisized to the liver. He has been doing Gemzar and Tarvacet (I think that is the name) since January. He has been feeling great (especially after treatments he would say). He was originally told by the doctors 2 or 3 months at the most, we are going on 7 so we feel very blessed (I think we became a little bit in denial that he even had cancer). This last month he has been more tired and he has had a very bad stiff neck (of which he was taking pain meds and getting physical therapy for - not sure if related to the cancer in any way). His oncologist took him off treatment for the past 3 weeks, saying a body can only take so much. He went to the Onc. today to be told that the latest CAT scan shows it is heavy in the liver and now in the lungs. He suggested some kind of treatment involving another port with some kind of bag to carry around for 2 days and then return visit to hospital for a shot. Sorry for the vagueness, I was not there and this is coming from my mother who I am sure was in shock (to a certain degree). My dad said he would try this treatment once and see. Side effects are diaherra, and fatigue. I am wondering if it is even worth it. Anyone know what I am talking about? And, any idea on what we can expect the next few weeks or are months possible? What kind of side effects are associated with cancer in the lungs? Thanks for you help.
