My 88 yo Mother just found out that the mole removed from her face is indeed malignant melanoma. She also has a hx of cough and and has had a chest CT and PET Scan. Pet Scan showed small nodules concerned with malignancy but too small for definite dx. Bronchocopy with washings is next step but dr suspects this may be indicative of lung metastases.
We have an appointment with the oncologist next week- Sentinel lymph biopsy is the next step. Further excision from the site at the face with possible skin grafting has also been mentioned.
Mom also has type II diabetes and CAD. Her mind remains sharp.
Any thoughts on benefits/risk of treatment would be appreciated. I'm at a loss how aggressive we should be with treatment. I'd hate for her to have the treatment lessen the quality of her life than the disease itself. Thanks
