Pacificare Insurance

Subject: pacificare insurance
Date: 07/19/2008

My husband has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  We have researched the options and decided that proton therapy would be the best for him.  He is 58 yrs old.  We had everything set up with MD Anderson in Houston and had a scheduled consultation in Aug.  We thought all was good, but then we got a notice from Pacificare (our insurance) and they denied this treatment.

Has anyone else had any luck with an HMO paying for this?  MD Anderson said we would have to pay out of our own pocket.  The approximate cost is $170,000.  If he was old enough for medicare, they would cover this.  Can anyone else relate to this or know of anything else we can do.  We would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks, Marty
