Hi, this is the first time i have ever been on any type of forum- so sorry for any mistakes. My 30 year old sister has been recently diagnosed with lintius plastica with mets to bowel and ovaries (however only microscopic cells here). It has come as a real shock as she only became sick in late April and there is no history of cancer in the family at all.
She has just recieved her third cycle of chemo (two intravenous every three weeks) and one by tablet form twice everyday sorry can't remember exact type 5fu rings a bell though). Intially they didn't think she would come out of hospital she was very very sick and nothing was passing through, she lost a lot of weight and was advised not to have chemotherapy. However she did and hasnt been sick since first session. She is now eating normally and has put 1.5 stone on in a month with every thing passing through normally the doctor thinks the chemo has killed the cancerous cells in her bowel.
However she is very worried about what happens nexts, she has been told she will have six sessions but does not now what is planned for after this? None of the doctors are being very clear and none of the nurses have seen this type of cancer before either.
Is surgery an option? I have been reading this site since she was diagnosed and it appears that surgery in the UK is not an option is this the same world wide or is the treatment different, I feel very confused as it appears some people with mets are operated on and others are not and am finding it hard to understand why?
My sister has a two year old and is very worried about her future as are we all! It seems horrendous to think there's nothing eles that can be done any help and advise would be gratefully appreciated.
Sorry to go on but I don't know were to begin!!!
