I am a 38 year old female who had bariatric surgery (biliopancreatic diversion) 4.5 years ago. In the last year I have developed sever pain in my stomach which radiates into my back and chest as well as into my lower abdomen areas. I have family history (paternal grandmother) of stomach cancer. I have also been through every test the docs know and can find not one thing that would be causing my pain. I am now dealing with swelling of my stomach so much so that I can barely eat and, at times, affects my breathing (hurts to breathe deep). I am scared that the docs are overlooking and/or missing something as they all comment that my issues are related to my previous bariatric surgery. I do not agree as I went 3.5 years with absolutely no issues and was in the best health of my life! I have been back to my surgeon who did endoscopy and said he found nothing. In the mean time I am no getting very fatigued, difficulty sleeping due to pain, not eating properly due to pain caused when I eat. I have seen several different doctors but as soon as they learn that I had bariatric surgery, they throw their hands up (some literally) and just tell me to go back to my surgeon.
So now I am researching on my own to see if there is a link to stomach cancer and bariatric surgery. There is not much out on the net about it. Is anyone else experiencing my problem?
Any thoughts or advice is greatly welcomed and overly appreciated. I have had several members of my family who have had to endure cancer diagnoses and treatments and am fearful for myself as I know that early detection is my only hope.
Respectfully,
