Colon/Liver Cancer

Hi. My mother (53yrs) was diagnosed with colon cancer in the liver last June. They told her without treatment it would be 1 year. They said with treatment depends for everyone. My mom took 6 rounds of chemo which is twelve treatments she is on what your husband is on plus avastin. Her tumor is inoperable because of location (near inferior vena cava). Her side effects were nausea (no vomiting) and decreased appetite. I did start her on green tea pills, flaxseed, and whey protein shakes in the morning. I am not sure if this is helping or hurting her. I do know that chemo is very very toxic and there is much debate over antioxidents but after much research on ACTUAL medical studies done on animals by reputable medical schools and journals we came to the conclusion to try it. She takes the pills three times a day but stops two days prior to chemo, during chemo and two days after chemo. There was one study that showed 5FU and EGCG (component of green tea) to be benefical. If this is true I do not know. It is a very scary decision to have to make considering there is very little evidence out there. Personally I think this is because they can not make money of of EGCG because it is an herb but that is just me being angry that my mother is ill. My mom did well with treatment but she is very very tired, she pushes herself but still continues on with life. She tries to keep her mind off of things because it is important to keep her spirits up. After 3 months a MRI showed 20% shrinkage and after 6 months it showed another 15% shrinkage which equals 35%. We were very happy she is making some progress. The next step the doc decided on is radiation. She is scheduled to begin next tuesday, and is very very scared. It is horrible to have to watch her go through this. All I know is that right now she lives her life day to day. I see her touch her stomach sometimes as if she is in pain but she has a high pain tolerance and does not want me to worry. Not sure what this is, it usually happens before her next chemo treatment. We also spoke to a dietican at the hospital and she said to cut out red meat, at most have it once a month and make sure it is lean and organic. We changed all of our food to organic and we wash fruits and veggies in apple cider vinegar to kill any bacteria. She also takes a multivitamin. Rainbowlight Women's one a day. They way it was explained to us was that we want to make it as easy as possible to digest the food that she is capable of eating. Organic is soooo expensive and is taking a toll on our pocket but she is doing well with it so it is worth every penny. Who is really to say what is working, I do not know. I think it is important to live the healthiest lifestyle, so ensure that when he does eat to make sure it is healthy. It is hard, my mom hates it because she feels that she has no control but I truly believe in it from the bottom of my heart. It just makes sense too, eating organic and watching what goes in to the body so she feels strong is only common sense but at the same time very difficult to follow. Sorry I know this was long but I am just trying to let you know what is helping her and maybe in some small way it could help you. does anyone know anythign about radiation on the liver mets? I am worried about this for her and still trying to do research on EGCG with radiation. Her oncologist said that were mixed reviews but not enough solid data to say no and he said he has no problem with her taking it. Any advice?
