Blair - I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Without knowing specifics such as resources readily available to you, or where you liv geograhically, I would recommend such places as university-associated medical centers that specialize in neuro-oncology, or other cancer treatment centers. In my case, I live in south west Michigan. We have excellent resources here, including the West Michigan CancerCenter, and the University of Michign Cancer Center associated with the UofM Medical Research Center. You can probably go online to find treatment centers close to your area. Just type in brain tumor treatment centers, or neuro-oncology treatment centers. I would also recommend that yourequest your doctors to be an advocate for you in finding help. If they won't then I would suggest looking for a doctor that is more interested in helping you live longer.
I was diagnosed with a Grade IV astocytoma, Glioblastoma multiforme in October, 2002. I hav have had initial surgery andfocused external-beam radiation. I had a rcurrence thi June. I had another surgery followed by Gliadel wafers plus Gliasite brachytherapy. Since I am not a doctor, there may also be other ways to get at the tumor such as gamma-knife surgery. Hopefully your doctors will work hard for you to find the best approach. Best of luck, and best wishes. - RP
