Hi there...i havent been on this site in a while - my name is Joanna and my user name is claudine..i was diagnosed with ET in May `06 after routine blood check prior to getting married..my platelets were at 1400 & did the routine bone marrow & philadelphia chromosme which all came back -ve. the hematologist started me on hydrea in June as he knows i want to get preganant straight away and said they need to come down before.....within four months platelets came down to 467 and now my last blood test was at 380. I`m going to take the hydrea for another two months + asprin daily to see how constant they remain, then i guess they`ll change the dosage. In the meantime i have to let them know as soon as i get preganant tocome off the hydrea and start the alpha injections......i am not keen on the hydrea as no one knows exactly the long term side effects of taking these pills...so far, i have had some sore gums for which i`m using a mouth wash but nothing apart from that....its great that you are pregnant and are doing ok with the alpha injections....and it was good they found out at the beginning re your ET and not later on during the term......Let me know how you get on...as this thing with ET and pregnancy was something that i was quite worried about.... - i`m 34 so its something i need to think about fairly soon.
