Subject: What to do About Ideopathic Hematuria
Date: 10/22/2006
I was first diagnosed with this in 1990 when they found blood
in my urine in a routine urinalysis. I had cytoscopy and IVP and
all was negative. There were times inbetween this and 2003
when I went to the doctor and did not have blood in my urine,
but sometimes it was there. I always just told them it was
ideopathic hematuria.

In 2003 it showed up again in a routine urinalysis and docs felt
it was time to check closely again. I agreed. I had the complete
workup again, this time including a CT scan instead of the IVP.
Again, all was negative, thankfully. They said that one of my
kidneys seemed slightly enlarged but there was no pathology.
The hematuria is not due to physical exertion or menses.

I really wonder what could be causing this hematuria and how I
can know how often I should be checked. It's like my body
keeps crying wolf. I would rather not go through the invasive
procedures every couple of years and my insurance
copayments are still pretty high, so I was wondering if anyone
had had this same problem and what they chose to do about it.
