My dad is taking Bovine Tracheal Cartilage. The brand he takes is Vita Carte & it is $80/month on Amazon.com. BTC supposedly stops angiogenesis which is the formation of new blood vessels. My dad has adenocarcinoma & it is a type of tumor that needs a rich blood supply. The theory is that if you can prevent the tumor from making new blood vessels, you will starve it & it will eventually die. You must take 12 tablets/day for the rest of your life. Dr. John Prudden (a Harvard surgeon) was the one who discovered it & began the research. Dr. Prudden does not advocate stopping chemo. His research shows that it works with or enhances the effect of the chemo. It seems to be working for my dad who has stage IV PC with mets to the liver. The last CT shows that the tumor has decreased in size by 1 cm & the liver met is not seen on the CT scan. Dad has only taken 7 chemo treatments & he is only on a palliative care dose of Gemzar. Whether it is the BTC or Gemzar working, I cannot be sure. However, his oncologist was so shocked by the results that she repeated some of his tests. You see, his oncologist privately told me that my dad would not live to complete even the first round of chemo treatments. Needless to say, we are thrilled with his results & he is almost finished with his second set of chemo treatments. His blood counts have been prefect & he has never had to miss a treatment due to low WBC's, RBC's, or platelet counts. I hope it works for you if you try it. I will keep you posted if we have any negative side effects or problems with the BTC, but so far it is all good.
